Our Farm
The Story of Kentura
Hi, I’m Janne, the owner of Kentura Ltd.
I’d like to tell you a bit about myself and our reindeer farm.
Since my early childhood I’ve been involved in reindeer herding, following my parents and grandparents as they worked with reindeer. I got my first reindeer earmark when I was 11 years old.
I lived around Rovaniemi during my youth, but reindeer herding has always drawn me back to the landscapes I loved as a child. This is why I decided to move to my aunt’s old summer house about 7 years ago. At first, the place only had an old cabin (now the Kentura guesthouse), a riverside sauna, and a woodshed.
Over the years, we’ve cleared the forest, built hay barns, and set up fences around the yard. Most recently, we built a house, and that’s when Kentura’s story truly began. After moving into the house, the guesthouse remained empty for a few years until we decided it was time to share the place’s unique atmosphere and tranquility with others.
For the past two winters, we have offered our guests the chance to become part of our daily life. Our daily routine is ordinary, yet unique and memorable in the world of reindeer herding. I hope we’ll meet in the future and that you’ll enjoy helping with the reindeer and experiencing the pure nature surrounding our home.
Welcome!

Raili and Martta
Our hardworking Lapponian herding dogs, Raili (on the left) and Martta, are sisters who work and play together. Martta, the 7-year-old ’boss lady,’ is known for working smarter, not harder. Raili, is 4 years old and she is more of a princess and always finds the most comfortable spots to sleep.
’Kentura’ is a word for a yard, a campsite or other even area where the reindeer herder lives.
